Sustainability 2.0: Cradle to Cradle certified façade and interior paints from KEIM

With the Cradle to Cradle Certified® certificates for 65 products in the areas of facade paints, interior paints, wood and concrete systems, KEIM is a pioneer in the construction industry.

All products have Silver certification, and even Gold in the Material Health, Social Fairness and Water Stewardship categories. The products account for over 80% of sales in the most important paint product range.

This gives planners, processors and building owners a comprehensive range of Cradle to Cradle-certified paint systems to choose from for designing new buildings and renovations with demonstrably recyclable, healthy and durable coatings.

The C2C Certified Material Health CertificateTM Level Gold confirms compliance with the strictly defined evaluation criteria based on all ingredients and components of the product. Gold certification from the independent Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute in San Francisco is only awarded to products that do not contain any substances from the list of banned chemicals and do not pose a risk to health or the environment. By making material decisions, planners and fabricators take responsibility for living spaces and our environment. The strict test criteria of C2C ensure a high level of safety in consulting, processing and use.

For over 140 years, KEIM has been a pioneer in terms of sustainability and places the highest value on avoiding problematic ingredients such as solvents, plasticizers, film protection agents or preservatives. Thanks to the ecological, healthy living performance and extraordinary durability of its products, KEIM was the first manufacturer in the world to be certified according to the natureplus guidelines for both interior and façade paints.

The Cradle to Cradle assessment criteria also included energy and water management as well as social fairness. Since 2019, KEIM has been using 100% green electricity at its two production sites in Diedorf and Alteno. In addition, the capacities of the company's own photovoltaic system are being further expanded. Proof of conscious use of water was provided by means of a water balance, among other things. A UN Global Compact self-audit was carried out to assess social responsibility towards society, employees and suppliers.

Sustainability has always been a central component of KEIMFARBEN's brand essence, long before the topic entered the public debate. In the tradition of company founder A.W. Keim of looking to the future and the next generation, KEIM is taking the next logical step from linear to circular action with Cradle to Cradle certification. "As a leading specialist in mineral building protection, we are called upon to think ahead to a future worth living in and to take action today," says Rüdiger Lugert, Managing Director of KEIMFARBEN. "The Cradle to Cradle Certified® certificate confirms that we are living up to this responsibility - not only with our products, but also with our social commitment within and outside our company."
